This book is an amazing read, well researched, and excellently written.
It starts after the 1850s and provides a caring view of the Cournoyer Family. JoAnne Courneya Fralick writes with great understanding of the primitive pioneer way of life with need of strong family in member numbers and love. One existed those days in the Dakota Territory due to family, homestead land, food storage, friends, strong horses, and understanding the weather.
There is a section about mule freighting into Deadwood and the challenging Cournoyer experience with the Badlands lowlife that seemed accurate.
Joanne has a writing skill that lets you visualize what you read. I could hardly set the book down. The book ended and I wanted to read more!
The book is highly recommended!
